Frank Darabont’s film The Shawshank Redemption ultimately encompasses both of these notions, thus allowing for a greater understanding of the world. A journey of maturation requires a change in perspectives, which inevitably leads to a broadened understanding of life. In Father and Child, Gwen Harwood illustrates this shift in attitude through the characterisation of a female persona at two stages in her life. As the second section progresses, it is evident that the persona’s life journey has led to a heightened understanding of life and death, with a sense of fulfillment evoked through the extended metaphor Since theres no more to taste ripeness is plainly all. Father, we pick our last fruits of the temporal. Towards the end of the poem, Harwood adopts a melancholy tone, with the Shakespearean allusion, Be your tears wet? conveying the personas reconciliation and mutual respect for her father as he approaches the closing stages of his journey. Therefore, through an exploration of Gwen Harwoods Father and Child, one can perceive that a change in perspectives may be a catalyst for a broadened understanding of life. Drawing parallels to Father and Child, Darabont in The Shawshank Redemption (1994), explores how a change in perspectives during a journey may consequently lead to a more optimistic outlook of the world. Upon emerging, the boy feels apprehensive about the near future, with the phrase we came uneasy at the silence that grew about us, and came out highlighting his reluctance to leave the protection and familiarity of his childhood behind. As the boy approaches the end of his journey out of childhood, he is fearful of the unknown, emphasised through the repetition in the lines, we started to trespass and while I ate ice, and wandered, and ate ice. However, once the young boy tests the inroads into his new life, he realises that he is keen to experience and embrace the future, demonstrated through the rapid pace and verb choices in time to shatter peace†¦ battering wind, and be rapidly gone. Thus, it is evident that a greater knowledge and confidence stems from an abandonment of one’s past during a journey. In the same way, in The Shawshank Redemption, Darabont encourages an individual to abandon one’s past in order for a successful inner journey to occur. During this journey, protagonist Andy Dufresne seeks a new life, connoted through the positive emotive language, â€Å"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory†, thus emphasising the need to surrender past traumas for a broadened perspective of the world. A sense of rejuvenation is exemplified through the characterisation of Dufresne, with a mis-en-scene depicting his hunched shoulders and minimal speech in early scenes juxtaposing his confidence and defiance as the film progresses. Dufresne’s abandonment of his past ‘guilt’ allows him to embark on an inner journey, with the cathartic effects evident in the final scene, symbolised by a high-angle shot coupled with a bright white backlight demonstrating a renewed sense of self. In th is scene, is depicted arms outstretched in a crucifixion pose with grand non-diegetic music crescendoing. The wisdom of selecting the jobs of their choice has facilitated the resource of enjoyment for them as well. They do according to their needs (Brinkley 2016). However, the biggest problem for such nature of work is the consistency to work on a regular basis. In such kind of work nature, professionals feel themselves as independent. This is probably one reason that prevents them from being consistent with their works. They do not feel pressure of working as per the needs of the organisations. On contrary to this, employees working either as a part timer or as full timer in such organisation are bound to work in fixed schedules. Moreover, they are in regular surveillance of their supervisors. They are bound to work according to the instructions of the management. On the other hand, freelancers do not have any supervision on them. They do not have any fixed working schedules as well. Such freedom hampers their determ ination. They can work equally well to those working in the organisation; however, they are found less committed with the timings and the consistency. Nevertheless, this is not a very healthy sign for a long sustained work as a freelancer (Kalleberg and Dunn 2016). Sustainability Sustainability has become one of the most talked topics across the globe. This has not only influenced the labours but it has also influenced the different small and multinational organisations. Organisations have their own issue for which they are struggling to attain the sustainability. However, on the other hand, labours have different set of challenges ahead of them, which has challenged their sustenance with the current job. Those who work as a full timer in organisations have to face several such organisational rules and policies, which are not according to their thought process. In such circumstances, people with solid determination continue with the job. However, those who do not have any strong determination tend to struggle with their job. They look for their kind of jobs, which means they are not settled with the existing jobs. In this regards, Millennial can be viewed as such labours who are in a continuing search of a job of their kind (Winnard et al. 2014). Freelancers on the other hand have also challenges ahead of them to attain sustainability with their kind of work. They are very selective as they choose task according to their desire and needs. The selectiveness in them compels them for being off the track for a notable time span. They lacks in consistency, which is problematic in the way of sustainability (Kotrba et al. 2012). Another identified issue with such nature of work is the quality of work, which can be on a lower side than the work quality at the organisational level. This can be because of various reasons such as lack of concentration while doing the task. This can also be because no one had supervised the work (Shields et al. 2015). Additionally, teamwork is also missing in such working environment, which is very necessary for knowledge sharing. Nevertheless, supervision and knowledge sharing are two very important factors that produce a significant supportive hand to a particular task. Lack of supportive environment a nd a lack of consistency in freelancers are two most potential challenges for sustainability (Gallie et al. 2012). Strengths of gig-economy Gig-economy provides solution to work pressure, which is strongly absent in the traditional work nature. It offers the selection of task, which is hardly the case with the traditional work nature. It offers an independent working environment where employees would have no supervision at all. It is highly flexible where freelancers can work according to their availability. They can also avail leaves when it is required. Interestingly, this would not require any application sending to the companys HRM. It is providing solution to the highly incrementing demands for freelancers in nowadays (Mulcahy 2016). Weaknesses of gig-economy It discourages a consistent work, which can be threatening for sustenance. Freelancing jobs lack consistency, which is less certain with traditional form of jobs. Affect on the lives of workers The contemporary nature of work has affected a significant population with its sheer effect. The gig-working style has influenced the workers in numerous ways. They have now attained flexible job timings, which is rarest possible with the traditional job style. Flexibility has grown on popularity in the contemporary world. Employees now have high passion for flexible shift timings, which could provide them work life balance. Very few companies in this regard have so far shown some resilience. IBM is one of those companies, which offers work life balance to its employees. However, very few companies have shown resilience in that regard. Options are ample to gig-workers. There are very less barrier to entry. On the other hand, it offers numerous opportunities to the freelancers. They now have unlimited options of jobs, which they can hire by inhibiting different job related skills. This has become possible because such jobs do not require any interview given to the interviewee. It just requires the possession of different skills and delivering the possessed skills at the right spot. Safety is another important asset, which the gig-workplace provides to its gig-workers. Gig-workers can now sit and relax safely at their home and deliver the required task using the dedicated apps. They are not required to go to the office and do extensive physical works (Donovan, Bradley and Shimabukuru 2016). The gig-economy has posed ample of challenges to the gig-workers as well. Inconsistent income is one of the commonest challenges that they have in the gig-economy. Low barriers to entry are one of the potential factors behind the fact. People can anytime enter to the network and replace the existing worker. This can happen because a low rated freelancer might not get consistent projects to his or her credit. Some other might get the opportunity. Competition is very high in gig-economy, which has made things challenging for the workers. To sustain the flow of projects, they need to be highly efficient with the projects. They are required to deliver the projects with utmost quality. Threat of not getting ample projects might hinder gig-workers from a consistent earning. Job security is less in gig-economy although ample of projects is there on the various freelancing sites. Once a gig-worker looses a contract, this would be difficult for him or her to get another better option in quick time. It offers solutions in two forms such as OnTalk and OnTalk Vault. It covers solutions such as securing the real time list of contacts, voice calls, SMS, instant messaging, media files etc. Eight random employees had been selected from the company for the scheduled interview. Each of the respondents has more or less similar thoughts regarding the gig-workplace. They replied according to their knowledge; however, their answers are very much in line with the literature review. Three respondents have supported the gig-workplace; however, they have also highlighted that inconsistent income is a threat in such working culture. Two other respondents have said that job security is less there in the gig-economy. However, they have also not denied the importance of gig-workplace. Job security was perhaps the one factor that has discouraged them from participating in the gig-economy. Rest three respondents have said that gig-economy is a good resource to flexible work, which is rarely available with the traditional format of working. However, they are also frightened of inconsistent income and job security. Findings Eight respondents were chosen on a random basis from TreeBox Solutions Company in Singapore. All the respondents came with little or more different responses; however, on a whole, they all supported the gig-economy. On the other hand, they have also shown concerns for the negatives, which are accustomed with the gig-workplace (Pinsof 2015). Interview has helped the learner to reach to a conclusion on the chosen subject topic. All the responses were in the line of the elements that were covered in the literature review section. It was found that gig-economy is the demand of Millennial, which supplies them ample of opportunities that they need. The flexibility in the gig-working nature has been found as the one point that is more fascinating to the respondents. This is something, which has missed in big time in the traditional working format. Flexibility is the rarest thing, which is seldom to the traditional workplace. Millennial in particular has high passion for work life balance. T hey have many other things, which are important to them. Millennial have their tendency to search for better option until a certain time span, which is why freelancing jobs appear fascinating to them (De Stefano 2015). The freedom to work on their own is another point, which the respondents had supported during the interview. This is hardly possible with the traditional work place. In the traditional organisations, employees are needed to perform the task according to the instructions from the supervisors. In other words, they are needed to work under strict surveillance of management. On contrary to this, gig-workers have independent life where they can make decisions of their own. In such workplace, they supervise their works (Chen and Sheldon 2016). Varied range of options was found as another reason, which excites their feelings for the gig-economy. In traditional organisations, it is indeed difficult to shuffle between different kinds of skills. It usually involves a thorough p rocess before it happens. On contrary to this, gig-workers have varied range of jobs available to them where they can easily shuffle with different jobs by inhibiting a different set of skills. They rather just require possessing and learning different skills, which would provide them earning varied ways of earning (Dokko, Mumford and Schanzenbach 2015). Despite the benefits that the gig-economy provides to the Millennial, it also has some disadvantages that frighten the Millennial. All the respondents have supported that inconsistent earning is a big threat to the gig-workers (Rogers 2016). They have believed that low barrier to entry is the cause behind a higher risk of losing the project (Sundararajan 2016). This is accustomed with less sustenance of jobs. Bad ratings for a freelancer can keep him or her away from projects. This is also threatening because clients prefer quality works, which is less possible in gig-economy. It means that sustainability is at stake in gig-economy (Zysman et al. 2014). Inconsistent working is another threat that according to all the respondents are problems with the gig-workplace. It is very difficult for freelancer to be consistent with their jobs. They gets habituated with such stuff and find this difficult to be consistent with their job. Gaps are highly evident, which rarely happens as long as e mployees stay in organisations (Nevin 2017). Conclusion Gig-economy is a highly incremented option for the Millennial, which has attracted many Millennial towards the concept. It has brought rapid changes in the working style. Now organisations do not only depend on traditional workplace. They instead have some other options as well such as part time workers and freelancers. Freelancers in particular have opened up ample of options to the employers. They can now get their job done from external resources as well. However, quality of works might hamper, as they are not recognised faces who work as a freelancer for organisations. The interview conducted with randomly selected eight respondents of TreeBox Solutions Company in Singapore has helped to conclude the research report. The results were in the line of literature review as it supplied the same information. Different respondents differed in their responses to each other slightly. However, they more or less supplied the same set of information, which also helped the learner to conclude the report. Gig-economy is a good option for the Millennial provided they are consistent with their jobs and provide quality to their works. Inconsistent work performance is a threat to consistent earning. On contrary to this, inconsistent performance in traditional workplace does not hamper the earning to that extent. This is because employees in such workplace intentionally or unintentionally perform their duty. On contrary to this, it is never possible with the gig-workplace. Issues such as anxiety, lack of confidence, depression, mood swings and low self-esteem seem to be concerning Stacey largely. Act of lethargy and unmotivated attitude is evident in Stacey. The reporting of lonely feeling and interest to participate in outdoor activities external to school identifies the efforts present in Stacey to overcome the situation and get treatment for the issues. As per the view of DeFilippis and Wagner (2014), the intension of the patient to involve and commit to treatment procedures with relevant suggestions as participating in outdoor activities in this case enable faster and efficient recovery. Stacey being able to identify her problems can also benefits from the fact that she can be motivated and drove towards the correct path of recovery with coordination and cooperation from her side. 2. Psychological, physical and social needs of Stacey with the use of therapeutic approaches: Considering the case study of Stacey, depiction of her psychological needs is clear. Although she seems to belong to a financially stable family, yet she lacks the closeness with her parents. Since both of them are full-time employed, she could spend very little time with them. Going by the opinion of Williams and Moroz (2009), a child considers the connection and presence of adults close to her/him as a protective factor. Stacey is experiencing the lack of protective factors since childhood is at a risk of developing low confidence. The reactions of anxiety, low self-esteem, lack of confidence when at her own in the absence of any adult indicates the vital need of extensive interactions with and the presence of her parents or protective factors in her life. The activities of resorting to consuming tablets and self-harm are indications that Stacey is very weak mentally. She lacks the strength of dealing efficiently with any stressful situation. The assessment of Stacey identifies the impulsive activities conducted by her as a result of her lack of confidence to handle the different situations in life. Her act of SH and suicidal tendency induces that she possesses a very low self-esteem and negative attitude towards herself. Therefore, she is in immense need of confidence development to prevent further acts of SH (Rutz, 2014). High level of depression depicted by Stacey reveals the need of motivating factors in her life to drive her out of depression. The lack of interaction with family members, issues with friends and workloads at school seem to affect Stacey highly on her psychological detriments of health. It indicates the need of an effective stress management program for her. More interaction and time spending with her family members is a necessity for Stacey to improve her psychological status (Gomez et al. 2012). The SH act of Stacey reveals the risk of physical detriment to her. Therefore, she needs a protective stand with her. Immediate addressing of her SH tendency is essential to prevent her from succumbing to suicidal thoughts and actions harming her physically. Huberty (2012) stated that genes, hormones and brain chemicals also play a highly influential role in depression creation in an individual. Stacey, however, shows no history of depression in her family thereby discarding the chances of genetic predisposition to depression. Her physical activities of sleep disturbances and effects on her appetite can be a result of depression that results in the reduction of a neurotransmitter. Staceys physical detriments as lack of energy, appetite changes and hormonal changes due to her developmental growth stage at the age of 14 years are necessary to consider while determining the most suitable intervention for her. Though Stacey denied the consumption of decanted bleach, yet a psychical asses sment to ensure her safety is essential. As put forward by Taylor (2013), a poor level of physical health can affect the mental health status of an individual adversely. Since Stacey depicts a weak level of mental health status, her physical health needs to be at optimum to ensure improvement in her mental condition. Stacey living in the absence of adults presence with her is at a higher risk of physical harm due to SH activity tendency. The study also identifies Stacey depicting a severe lack of interactions with family members and friends. Shabani et al. (2011) opined that a lack of social interactions can lead a person towards depression and anxiety lowering self-esteem and confidence as evident in Stacey. Therefore, it emphasizes her need of increasing social mixing activities. Stacey stating interest in outdoor activities outside the school is a positive aspect that can be utilized to increase her social interactions. Enrolling her in group activities as volleyball, dance class or any team sports activity will enable her to mix with people and make new friends thus developing her confidence and self-esteem. 3. Nursing care in: a) Critical identification of aims Guidance to the structuring of critically determined goals for Stacey is highly essential. Going by the view of Williams and Moroz (2009), structured way of goal selection enable the clarity of roles and responsibilities in the following steps of goal achievement. It is because the prior determination of what to achieve and how to achieve is already executed. Considering the case study of Stacey, she depicts mental health issues majorly affecting her life and physical as well as social aspects. Therefore, the nursing care goal for Stacey must involve the achievement of a higher level of self-esteem and confidence to deal with her life and stressful incidences as per need. Stress management activities as participating in recreation games or acts and meditation along with psychological sessions with a qualified psychiatrist can facilitate goal achievement. As stated by Vesely et al. (2014), physical issues are related to the mental health state of an individual. Therefore, the physical issue of Stacey as lack of energy, variation in appetite, etc. can be focused upon secondary to the goal of her mental stability and improvement. Since stress and too much of negativity can adversely affect the physical health of Stacey through sleep disturbances that she already experiences, mental health improvement of Stacey is of prime importance. b) Appropriate and critical selection of therapeutic nursing interventions: The therapeutic nursing intervention of Cognitive Therapy for Stacey can prove beneficial in managing her stress and depression that makes her suffers the most and associates the rest of the health issues. CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Theory), as identified in the study, can effectively assist Stacey in regaining her lost self-esteem and confidence by supporting her social, physical and behavioral needs. Family therapy is another effective intervention to apply on Stacey for addressing her mental health issues. Since she suffers mainly from the absence of her family making her feel abandoned, this intervention can benefit Stacey by providing her family support that she needs the most at present. Medications as clomipramine, desipramine and as Prozac are found effective in reducing depression in the children (Personalityresearch.org, 2015). However, since Stacey seems to predispose to depression due to an excess of serotonin release, she can opt for the serotonin inhibiting medicines as Prozac, Lexapro, and Zoloft. Fluoxetine is another anti-depressant that can be prescribed to Stacey for treating her persistent depression. Nevertheless, an MDT (multidisciplinary treatment) plan can prove extremely efficient on Stacey driving her depression away thereby improving her mental state. c) Exploring the evaluation of care and clinical MDT review: The care facility and procedure implemented on Stacey seems quite efficient in addressing her depression at present. The CBT intervention is highly effective in bring her back to her normal behavior as much possible. However, since she suffers the absence of her familys support, Stacey need to be provided with a better and closer interaction with her family. The negligence in medicine intake depicted by Stacey indicates her repulsion towards medication intervention. At the same time, Stacey shows high interest in the active interventions of group o team sports participation. The MDT review identified in the case study to employ on Stacey is a supportive intervention for addressing her issues with the mental health state and efficiency. Therapeutic efficacy of clinical service or environment of care and analysis of possible alternate service provision to be beneficial or not: The clinical environment at present, where Stacey receives the nursing care, seems favorable enough to facilitate implementing the interventions. As asserted by Austin et al. (2011) a favorable and supportive environment in clinical context acts productively to support the achievement of the desired outcomes. However, a separate outdoor activity space as a playground outside the school is necessary to let Stacey participate in group activities and sports or dance with other new friends. 5. Stress vulnerability theory: As per to this model a person has unique biological, psychological and social elements. These elements include both potency and vulnerabilities for dealing with stress. Social activities, social support, involvement in meaningful activities can help the patient in getting out of stress. Some person is biologically vulnerable to some psychological disorders, major depression, and anxiety disorders. This is determined a t early stage of life by a number of factors. That includes genetics, prenatal nutrition, and stress. People can take steps to decrease the vulnerability by taking medications and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The two factors biologically vulnerability and stress are influenced by many elements. The patient should try to have control over them. The various factors are drugs, alcohol and smoking, coping skills, social support, and meaningful activities. This model suggests that by controlling the above factors the person can get over the problems. Here the patient can take the help of social support, controlling medication, and she should take part in social activities. Social support can help her in getting out of stress. 6. Bio psychosocial theory: A bio psychosocial model of the development of the chronic conduct issues is represented and maintained through a review of experimental findings. This model posits that biological dispositions and socio cultural contexts place certain child at risk in early stage of life. Considering the other care services provision, Stacey may benefit from a more integrated care approach focusing on implementing the nursing care interventions at her home with the involvement of her family members. Identifying the main reason of depression as the absence of parents and lack of sufficient interaction with them closely, the family therapy intervention can be used at home of Stacey. As per the view of Vitiello (2011), it will enable Stacey towards a faster and more effective recovery by providing her with the support of her family. The appointment of a qualified and experienced trainer or therapist always benefits the patient. Providing Stacey with the scope of going out of her home and school and mixing with new people to make new friends is the best possible option as of now. In order to ensure the high success probability of these interventions, the nurse needs to keep a constant check and monitoring of the vitals of Stacey along with the occurrence of any unusual behavior or physical change in Stacey. Music (2012) conveyed that the service provision of relevant mental health service in hospital and care homes exclusively for children and adolescents suffering from issues of mental state and associated physical aspects shows high success rates.
